    Nice. I know after I discovered the mediabuntu (sp?) repo a ton of user issues vanished. Multimedia content is the biggest headache of all things, and that repo rocks it.

    Very useful, thanks for sharing that.

    Is anyone familiar with a video card that has accelerated video drivers that work? I've been unsuccessful with ATI All-In-Wonder, ATI x700, Nvidea and Intel ..... that's kinda narrowing down the playing field a bit.

      HELP!

      When I installed the JRE from this list I am getting the following message:

      E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
      E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

      When I try to run the command 'dpkg --configure -a' in a terminal window I am getting the "requested operation requires superuser privilege" message.

      Also...I ran the command to improve graphic performance and now my screen res is maximum 800 x 600.

      I don't know how to get it back to the 1024 res. And there is no option for it under System>Preferences>Screen Resolution...800x600 is now the highest res I have.

      Does anyone know what the hell I've done?!

        Whew!

        Nevermind.

        I figured out my error on the JRE install and finally got that downloaded.

        Then I deactivated the NVIDIA driver...apparently that was what hosed my screen res.

          in general, i'd recommend the ubuntu fora for trouble like this. often times you'll find solutions from others that have had the same problems.

          also, google's search functions are much stronger than those of tribe, which means you'll usually get more [relevant] information quickly
