I'm running ubuntu 9.04 on a t42 thinkpad. mostly it's been pretty good, a few hardware quirks (i'd used windows on this laptop previously so i knew it well);
- numlock indicator is always lit even after disabling, and always boots up enabled, and sometimes enables itself!
- touchpad is way tooo sensitive
Any fixes for these or other things to be aware of?

Sat, August 29, 2009 - 11:08 AMYou ever find ways to get rid of the quirks? I have a T60 and Ubuntu is stable on it, just crappy resolution w/ the Intel graphics chipset driver. I am also running 9.04.
The Ubuntu repos show a package called gsynaptics that is a configuration tool for the touchpad driver. I haven't ever had to use it as I am a fan of the trackpoint thingie in the middle of the keyboard.
Numlock light being on is an old feature of Ubuntu now on t4* machines. I remember looking into that with Feisty. You might try trolling ubuntuforums.org for informations regarding any fixes. Works as expected on T60 so again I haven't had to deal with it. -

Sun, August 30, 2009 - 12:39 AMI did finally get gsynaptics installed but it took awhile to tweak it correctly for 9.04... most of the documentation I found was still for 8.x or earlier. I don't remember exactly which cfg line made it work... it might have been an update that finally kicked in to get the tools available.
I'd check but the fan in the laptop died recently and I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet! When i do I'll definitely look into the numlock problem again.
Resolution was actually much better than expected (from previous versions anyway), though it doesn't do well with hot docking/undocking.
Another thing was that the wireless driver started getting flakier -- it could barely hold a signal for any decent length of time. I tried switching to the proprietary driver but it wasn't any better. Noticed others have the same problem, so maybe by the time I get the fan replaced they'll have a fix for that one. It's something that seemed to break with an update at some point, it definitely wasn't that bad initially.
